Summer Monsoon Season is Coming Early! Do this to Protect Your Roof.

What a difference a year makes! In 2018, New Mexico experienced a severe drought that caused major fire risks statewide. Fast forward to this Spring, and New Mexico has experienced a complete turnaround with one of the coolest and wettest climates in years. In fact, Albuquerque has already experienced an above average 3 inches of rainfall this year accompanied by many destructive hailstorms.

This change in weather is mostly due to the El Niño weather pattern. El Niño happens when there is warmer than average sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, which causes an increase in moisture in the Winter months. This is exactly what we experienced in New Mexico this past Winter with heavy snowfall across the state, which has resulted in above average snowpack that we can now see melting and filling most of our lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. Forecasters are predicting this weather pattern will most likely carry over into the Summer months and cause an early and long monsoon season rivaling the two wettest on record in 1988 and 2006.

The increase in rainfall we are experiencing is just what our dry landscape needs, but it could also prove harmful to your home. It's important to be prepared for more rainy weather and prevent leaks from occurring during our Summer downpours. Right Way Roofing is advising homeowners to protect their investment they've made in their home by scheduling a preventative maintenance Roof Tune-Up as soon as possible.

A Roof Tune-Up consists of:

1. Resealing all roof penetrations and pipes as needed

2. Cleaning roof of leaves, old A/C pads, branches, etc.

3. Flushing out canals, downspouts, and gutters for better drainage

4. Applying a coat of protective aluminum paint on all exposed areas

5. Inspecting all skylights and roof top equipment

Preventative maintenance to your roof is one of the best investments you can make because it prevents future leaks that can lead to very expensive repairs to the interior of your home.
